Indoor Track Competes in Tufts National Qualifier

WORCESTER, Mass. - A handful of Worcester State University indoor track & field student-athletes competed Saturday at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet at the Gantcher Center.

On the women's side, Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) and Bernice Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) each competed in two events. The tandem finished in ninth and 10th place respectively in the 60 meter dash, running times of 8.11 and 8.15 seconds. MacGregor also competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing 13th with a time of 27.10 seconds. Mensah competed in the triple jump, finishing in ninth place at 10.58 meters.

Headlining the men's side was senior thrower Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.), who had a pair of top four finishes. He finished third in the shotput at 15.15 meters, and fourth in the weight throw at 18.59 meters. Other throwers for the Lancers included Eddy Acuna (Newton, Mass.), who finished fifth in the shotput at 14.98 meters, and Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.), who finished ninth in the weight throw at 16.44 meters. 

John Ojukwu (Stow, Mass.), who was last week crowned the New England Champion in the event, ran to a second place finish in the 60 meter dash Saturday. Ojukwu ran a time of 7.02 seconds. Senior Scott Page (Winchendon, Mass.) competed in the pole vault, but could not clear 4.40 meters.
