Women's Cross Country Places Second At MASCAC Championships

 

Westfield, MA --- Senior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) propelled five women who placed in the top 15 as she scaled Stanley Park's 5k course with time of 19:08 to help Worcester State take home second overall at the MASCAC/Alliance Cross Country Championships this morning. 

Westfield State earned the team title with 25 points, while the Lancers (55) out distanced Bridgewater State (79) and Fitchburg State placed fourth (104). The same five runners placed inside the top 50 to help the Blue and Gold claim fourth in the Alliance standings.

Donohue was the lone WSU student-athlete to earn both MASCAC accolades for placing third overall and New England Alliance laurels for finishing 10th.

Sophomore Jennifer Cardinal (Chicopee, MA) and junior Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) were both hundredths of a second off in 11th (20:18.08) and 12th (20:18.71), respectively, while second-year Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) added 14th (20:21) and senior Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) crossed the finish line in 15th (20:24).

Junior Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) was inside the top 20 with 18th (20:29) and senior Natalie Marchi (Northbridge, MA) placed 25th overall by clocking 20:54.

Sophomore Maggie Ingraham (Danvers, MA) and senior Nicole Boudreau (S. Windsor, CT) both placed 46th (22:28) and 50th (23:20), respectively to round out the squad.

The Lancers will return to Stanley Park in two weeks when they will compete at the Division III New England Cross Country Championships.
