Baseball Breaks Out the Bats Versus WPI, 19-3

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State tallied runs in the first six innings while cruising to a 19-3 road victory over WPI in non-conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon. With the result, the Lancers improve to 5-8 while WPI slips to 8-7.

Worcester State opened up the game early with three runs each in the first, second and fourth innings before exploding with five runs in the fifth to open up a 15-1 advantage. Nate Nelson (Worcester, MA) belted homers in the sixth and eighth innings en route to collecting a game-best four RBI.

Nick Dortona (Revere, MA) slammed a solo home run for the Lancers while Chris Gusha (Rutland, MA) and Nick Caparell (North Attleboro, MA) had exceptional games with three RBI each. Catcher Chris Logan (Spencer, MA) had a full day despite registering just two official at-bats. The senior parlayed three walks, a single and a fielder’s choice into five runs scored.

WPI got two hits from Matt Moreau (Manchester, NH), including an RBI double. Scott McNee (Falmouth, MA) added his team-best 21st RBI of the year with a sacrifice fly and Jameson Kokolis (Manchester, NH) added a run-producing double.

Pat Good (Hull, MA) picked up the win for the Lancers, going five solid innings to improve to 1-0. He struck out three while allowing one hit and an unearned run. Sophomore Alex Hansen (Burlington, CT) took the loss for WPI to drop to 0-2 on the season.
