George Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week

 

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Sophomore Zach George (Attleboro, MA) has been selected as MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week for helping lead Worcester State to four wins in the last week.

George batted .480 (12-for-25) with four doubles, six runs and seven RBIs which included five hits, two doubles and three RBIs in a split with Fitchburg State and a pair of base-knocks and two RBIs in a split with Westfield State as he helped the Lancers earn a first-round home game in the upcoming MASCAC tournament.

In what has proven to be a break-out season for the every-day outfielder, George is currently leading the MASCAC with a .416 batting average while he has notched 42 hits – 10 for doubles – 22 runs and 18 RBIs.

George is currently second in two-baggers, third in the league in on base percentage (.468), fourth in slugging (.554), tied for sixth in base-knocks.

Since being held hitless in a twinbill split against Bridgewater State, George has been on a tear at the plate, swatting .523 with 10 runs, 12 RBI, 30 total bases to go with an on-base percentage of .580. He has seven multi-hit games in his last 12 since April 16.

The Lancers (18-20, 8-6 MASCAC) have captured the fourth-seed in the conference tournament and they will play #5 Bridgewater State in the first round on Thursday at 3:30 in a single-elimination contest. The winner moves on to play top-seed Salem State at 3 o'clock on Friday in the Quarterfinals.
