NEW LONDON, Conn. - A second half goal from junior Katelyn Santos (Acushnet, Mass.) was not enough as the Worcester State University field hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Connecticut College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.

With the loss, the Lancers dip below .500 at 2-3, while the Camels jump to 2-2.

Connecticut College got on the board first on Saturday, as senior Jamie Navoni (Northborough, Mass.) found the back of the net in the seventh minute. Navoni took a pass from freshman Meghan Gazard (Ashland, Mass.) and buried her second goal of the season past Worcester State goalkeeper Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.).

Santos' goal evened the score in the 41st minute, as the Lancers came out of the break in a big way. Junior Sophia Monopoli (Worcester, Mass.) tallied an assist on Santos' first goal of the season. 

The tie would last less than four minutes however, as Camel sophomore Caroline Ferro (Wilton, Conn.) netted her second goal of the season to put her team back on top in the 45th minute. Navoni would score her second goal of the game with under two minutes to play to provide some cushion for the hosts, and giving the contest its 3-1 final.

Hopkins was strong in goal for the Lancers, turning away 10 shots in the losing effort. The goaltending duties were split by the Camels, but it was freshman Jackie Mountford (Sherborn, Mass.) who would get credited with the win.

Statistically, the Camels held a heavy edge in the number of shots taken on the afternoon, outshooting the Lancers by a margin of 19-4.
