Bement Earns GNAC Men's Golf Sportsmanship Team Nod

Boston, MA --- Freshman Anthony Bement (Attleboro, MA) has been selected to the GNAC Sportsmanship team as announced by league publicist Dan Campagna.

The accolade for Bement wraps up a strong fall for the men's golf squad who finished their season at the end of October as he helped pace the Lancers to a trio of stellar team performances this past season.

He tied for 24th with a card of 82 at Westover Golf Course to help the Lancers place fourth at the Elms Fall Blazer Invitational for a finish that saw them score 13th overall a year ago at the same tournament.

Bement also was the third-best finisher in a dual match win over Anna Maria at Blackstone and he fired a two-day score of 187 to help the Lancers place 35th - 20th among Division III squads in attendance – at the NEIGA Championships.

Second-year head coach Mark Gurski had nothing but glowing things to say about Bement of the honorable distinction, who was one of nine honorees from each GNAC member institution.

"Anthony has proven himself to be one of the most consistent performers during tournament play this season," said Gurski. "His improvement on the course was evident throughout the season as attended nearly every practice this past fall.

"He has also been willing to represent the team on various student athlete committees and he has exemplified behavior the coaching staff likes to see on and off the course."

Under the direction of Gurski, the Lancers wrapped up their opening semester of tournament play with eighth place at the GNAC Championships, led by Bement who was WSU's top finisher at the event (30th - 169).

The Blue and Gold will hit the links again next spring with a full slate including the MASCAC Championships and the Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational hosted by WSU at Blackstone National.
