Worcester State Places Second at MASCAC Championship; Third in Rich Korzec Invitational

Rich Korzec Invitational Results | MASCAC Championship Results

 

SUTTON, Mass. - Salem State senior Tom MacPherson (Jefferson, Mass.) carded a 74 (+2) to win medalist honors at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships and lead the Vikings to their second MASCAC Team Championship in three years at Blackstone National Golf Course.

 

The Vikings totaled a team score of 308 (+20) edging out the Worcester State team total of 314 (+26) and the Westfield State total of 321 (+33). MCLA rounded out the competitor with a team 406 (+118).

 

Senior teammate Cam Moniz (Seekonk, Mass.) tied for second place in the field, carding a 4-over 76. Sophomore Chad Alibozak (Adams, Mass.) finished tied for fifth handing in a card of 77.

 

Since the MASCAC Golf Tournament restarted in 2010, Salem State has won five of the seven team championships.

 

Lancer senior Jackson Davis (Spencer, Mass.) finished tied for second, shooting 76 (+4), including two birdies on the front nine. Juniors Steven Ferraro (Leicester, Mass.) and Patrick Sharron (Boylston, Mass.), tied for 14th shooting 79 (+7), including a front side 35 (-1) for Ferraro. Sophomores Eddie Peladeau (Douglas, Mass.) and Mike Jezierski (Thompson, Conn.) finished tied-21st, each shooting an 8-over, 80.

 

Along with the MASCAC Championship victory, the Vikings were the winners of the fourth annual Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational Golf Tournament, a one-day event named for the late Worcester State men's head golf coach. Rhode Island College finished second, led by senior John Cooper (Berkley, Mass.) and freshman Tom Sheran (Marston Mills, Mass.) both shooting a 5-over, 77.

 

Fourth place Babson College was led by sophomore Pranav Mohan (Fremont, CA) who carded a 76 (+4) and tied for second individually.

 

The Lancers get back to the course for their final two-day, weekend tournament of the year, April 16 and 17 at Cranston Country Club for the Johnson & Wales Wildcats Invitational. The Lancers will then finish up their spring season April 19 for the Elms College Blazer Invitational at Westover Golf Course.
