Box Score

Boston, MA --- Sophomore forward Tyler Medeiros (Somerset, MA) scored a goal and added an assist, while freshman forward Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, CA) scored twice as the Wentworth hockey team opened the ECAC Northeast portion of its schedule with a 6-1 win over Worcester State in a contest played at Matthews Arena.

James got the Leopards on the board with the only goal of the first period when he buried a shot from inside the left face-off circle at 3:29. Junior Jeff Olitch (Calgary, Alberta) and freshman defenseman Alan Dionne (North Scituate, RI) added the assists. Wentworth, which held a 9-1 shot advantage at one point in the first period, outshot the Lancers 15-8 over the first 20:00 of action.

At the 4:51 mark of the second period Medeiros and Dionne set up freshman forward Forrest Ellis (Pembroke, NH), whose first career marker, a power-play goal, gave Wentworth a 2-0 lead. Midway through the period, Worcester State cut the lead in half when junior forward Andy Orsini (Rochester, NY) scored from classmate Lee Belsile (Chicopee, MA) and freshman forward John Cahalane (Tewksbury, MA). That would be as close as the Lancers would get as Jameson added his second of the contest at 14:44 to give Wentworth a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Sophomore defenseman Jeff Fedyk (Calgary, Alberta) gave the Leopards a 4-1 lead with a goal at 5:15 of the third period, followed by freshman forward Luke Heller’s (Scituate, MA) first collegiate goal at 15:01. With 44 seconds left scored his first of the season. Freshman Mike Paglino (Grosse Pointe Shores, MI) assisted on all three third period tallies.

Junior Justin Marriott (St. Clair Shores, MI) made 25 saves to pick up the win for the Leopards, while junior Brian Robinson (Groveland, MA) made 41 saves in defeat. Wentworth held a 47-26 shot advantage for the game.

The win improves Wentworth’s record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in ECAC Northeast play. Worcester State falls to 1-2 (0-1). The Leopards are back in action on Thursday night at Western New England, while the Lancers are at Suffolk on Saturday.
