Men's Soccer Drops Final MASCAC Game, 2-1

Salem, MA --- Senior captain Andrew Angus (Boston, MA) broke a scoreless tie with a penalty kick less than a minute into the second half to help the Salem State Vikings to a 2-1 win over the Worcester State Lancers.

The win secured the fourth and final playoff spot for the Vikings in this years' MASCAC Tournament.  The Lancers round out their 2009 season at 2-14-2 and 0-4-2 in the conference.

Angus, who is third in the league in goals scored with eight, went top left to beat Worcester State goalie Evan Wilga (Dudley, MA).

Salem State (7-8, 4-3 MASCAC) controlled play for most of the first half, limiting the Lancers (2-14-2, 0-5-2) to only one scoring chance.

Play opened up in the second half as Worcester State was able to answer Angus' goal and tie the game at the 73:29 mark. Kwasi Acheampomg (Webster, MA) scored his first goal of the season, beating Vikings goalie Luis Marques (Fall River, MA) to even the score at 1-1.

Owen Quane (Weymouth, MA) broke the tie, netting the game-winner with less than ten minutes remaining on a pass from David Miller (Lancaster, PA) to give Salem State the 2-1 victory.

Marques made three saves to even his record at 3-3 on the year. Wilga, who made three stops suffered the loss.
