Men's Soccer Blanks Southern Maine, 3-0

Worcester, MA --- Junior Justin Biela (Bridgewater, MA) netted a goal and an assist to help lead Worcester State University to a 3-0 win this afternoon over Southern Maine University in non conference men's soccer action at Coughlin Stadium. With the win the Lancers up their record to 2-3 while the Huskies fall to 0-4.

After a scoreless first half, Biela scored his first career goal when he took a feed from freshman Brian Cormier (Hudson, MA) as Worcester State went up 1-0 in the 64th minute.

Biela found an opening four minutes later when he dribbled the ball to the right corner and made a perfect pass to freshman Alex Wolfel (Unionville, CT), who headed the ball right into the open goal.

The Lancers scored again towards the end of the game when first-year Ryan Tuggey (Pittsfield, MA) found an open junior Andrew Babineau (Webster, MA) who also recorded a tally by using his head in the 89th minute.

Worcester State would outshoot the visitors 16-4 in the opening stanza and 28-8 (14-2 on net) for the game. The Blue and Gold also had a 5-1 lead in corners.

Southern Maine's best chance to score came in the first half when freshman Branden Lever (Auburn, ME) came down the field on a breakaway, but his attempt at the net went just to the right of the net.

Junior Evan Wilga (Dudley, MA) saved two shots as he posted his sixth shutout of his career and second of the season. Senior David Kreps (Agawam, ME) turned aside 11 shots for the visitors.

Worcester State will play their next game on Tuesday at Trinity in a 4:30 non conference affair while Southern Maine will entertain St. Joseph's of Maine at 4 PM in their home opener on Wednesday.
