Men's Soccer Defeated By Regionally Ranked Trinity, 4-1

Hartford, CT --- Trinity (CT) Junior Will Stankiewicz (Townsend, MA) netted two goals and classmate Julian Gocksch (Centerport, NY) added the game winner as they both helped lead regionally-ranked Bantams to a 4-1 triumph over Worcester State in non-conference men's soccer action this evening.

Trinity, ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA New England rankings, improve their season mark to 2-0. The Lancers slip to 1-3 with the setback.

Trinity pummelled the opposing net as they finished the opening half with the 11-0 advantage in shots and the 3-0 advantage.

Senior Anthony El-Hachem (Vernon, CT) netted the first of the game in the 21st minute on a penalty kick before Gocksch tacked on the second goal to put the hosts on top 2-0, just two ticks before the 43rd minute began. The unassisted markers were the first of the year for both upperclassmen.

Stankiewicz would tack on the third goal of the period with 51 seconds remaining in the opening period on a feed from sophomore Alex Perkins (Kingston, Jamaica).

As the teams came back onto the field for the second half, the Lancers changed the pace of the game allowing just three shots for the remainder of the contest - all coming in the final five minutes of the game. The Bantams were also offside three times in the fina 45 minutes of play

The momentum shift allowed WSU to take advantage of one of their three shots when freshman Alex Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) found the back of the net for his first collegiate tally 4:57 into the second stanza.

The other two shots of the period included a shot on net by junior Alex Wolfel (Farmington, CT) in the 65th minute and another shot by Goncalves nearly three mintues later.

Trinity added onto its lead with 11 seconds remaining on the clock when Stankewicz sent in his second of the contest on a dish from sophomore Max Oppenheimer (Plymouth, MN).

First-year netminder Nick Zucco (Ludlow, MA) had a tough first half, but he did stop five shots for the Lancers. Second-year Jason Katz (Middleton, MA) and junior James Ciano (Syosset, NY) both split time in the net as Ciano was called upon to make one save.

Trinity finished the contest with a 5-0 edge in corners as the contest proved to be physical with 21 fouls between the two squads. The Bantams also led in shots 14-3 (9-2 on goal).

The Blue and Gold look to rebound as they open up their MASCAC slate with defending regular season and tournament champion Framingham State at 4 PM on Saturday. Trinity hosts NESCAC rival Williams, who is also regionally-ranked with the number seven slot in the region, at 12:30 PM on the same day.
