Western New England Claims 1-0 Victory over Worcester State

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Western New England's senior defender, Colin Macdonald (W. Newbury, Mass.), scored on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute as the Golden Bears posted a 1-0 victory over the visiting Worcester State Lancers Tuesday evening (Oct. 6) at Suprenant Field.

 

Each team had equivalent possession of the ball, as the Golden Bears just outnumbered the Lancers in shots by two (10-8). Western New England totaled three corner kicks throughout the entirety of the game, while Worcester State only was allotted one.

 

Offensively for the Lancers, freshman forward Bryan Brasil (Williamsburg, Mass.) fired off two shots, while sophomore Matthew Dent (Ludlow, Mass.), junior George Siotis (Oxford, Mass), freshman Ian Robson (Amherst, Mass.), sophomore Jacob Jess (Dudley, Mass.), and junior Noah Phelps (Attleboro, Mass.) each had one apiece.

 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.) recorded three saves for Worcester State, while Western New England's junior keeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) also stopped three.

 

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 3-6-1 on the season, while the Golden Bears advance to 6-5.

 

The Lancers will continue play on Oct. 10 when they face MCLA on their home field (John F. Coughlin Memorial) at 2:00 p.m.
