Men's Soccer Falls Short Against Bridgewater

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's soccer team fell to the Bridgewater State Bears by a score of 2-1 Friday in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Coughlin Field.

The Lancers drop to 4-6-2 (2-1-1 in MASCAC) with the loss and the Bears improve their record to 6-5 (2-2 in MASCAC).

Zachary Ells (Douglas, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Bears, recording his first goal of the season in the 14th minute. Ells received a pass from Kane Moran (Perth, Australia) and was able to turn and send a shot past the Worcester State goalie.

The Lancers responded in the 36th minute with a goal from Gift Kalombo (Worcester, Mass.). Kalombo took it himself into the box, fired one shot that was saved by the Bridgewater State keeper, gathered the rebound, and sent a second shot past the keeper's outstretched arm to tie the score at 1-1.

The teams went into the half still tied. Both teams had seven shots in the first 45 minutes.

Moran put the Bears up for good with a goal of his own in the 82nd minute. He corralled a cross from Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) and found the back of the net.

Bridgewater State goalkeeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) earned the win while recording four saves. Lancer keeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) ended up with the loss and earned three saves.

The Lancers will play next in a road game against Becker College on October 11 with kickoff at 4 p.m. The Bears next match will be on Wednesday, October 10 at MIT starting at 7 p.m.
