Stahelski Leads Strong Sprints Performances At Worcester City Meet

Worcester, MA --- Senior RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) highlighted five first-place finishes for Worcester State he clocked an All-Open New England time of 49.47 in the 400 meter dash to help pace the Lancers to a second place finish with 208 points at this afternoon's Worcester City Meet at Coughlin Field.

WPI won the meet with 246 points as Fitchburg came in third with 140, followed by Assumption (37), Gordon (27) and Clark (7).

Stahelski was only 0.57 seconds away from provisionally qualifying for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships while he also timed 22.86 to stamp his ticket for the Division III New England's in the 200.

Other top finishes included freshman Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) in the 400 meter hurdles (56.96), sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) in the pole vault (3.84 meters) and first-year Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) in the high jump (1.86m). Maciel and Johnson also added their names to the list of Division III New England qualifiers.

Sophomore Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) notched second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:47.7) before he placed fifth in the 800 (2:16.09) while freshman Randy Joseph-Jones (Beverly, MA) distinguished himself with third in both the long jump (5.92m) and triple jump (11.82m), fifth in the 200 (23.60) and sixth in the 100 (11.80).

First-year Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, MA) added fourth in the 200 (23.23) and fifth in the 100 (11.63).

Freshman teammates Devlin Crawford (Randolph, MA) and Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) each finished in third (50.46) and fourth (50.67), respectively, in the 400 after sophomore classmates Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) and Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) were seconds apart in third (11.53) and fourth (11.59) in the 100. Rookie Neil Reilly (Oxford, MA) also recorded third in the 1,500 (4:30.59).

In the field, junior Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) and sophomore Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) were in third (12.94m) and fourth (12.63m), respectively, in the shot put as sophomore Sebastian Bilenschuk (Mansfield, MA) and McCann were a couple of feet off each other in the discus in sixth (34.51m) and seventh (33.67m).  

On Friday evening at Holy Cross, sophomore Connor Greene placed fourth overall in the javelin throw with a toss of 49.36 meters.

Next weekend the Lancers will travel north to the Jim Sheehan Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.
