Box Score

Chicopee, MA --- Worcester State junior third baseman Maura Crossman (Colrain, MA) went 2 for 4 and junior first baseman Katherine Kelly (Burlington, MA) delivered the eventual game-winning RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to help send the visiting Lancers to a 2-1 win over Elms College in Wednesday's non-conference softball game at Condon Field.

Worcester State won its second straight game and improved to 3-8-1, while Elms College lost for the fifth time in six games and fell to 3-9.

Following six scoreless innings, Elms College sophomore first baseman Destinee Meeker (Bantam, CT) cranked a line-drive, one-out RBI infield single to plate senior shortstop Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA) with the game's first run. Bowden led off the frame with a double to left center field.

Worcester State sophomore pitcher Michaella Mahoney (Shrewsbury, MA), however, forced a popout and lineout with the bases loaded to escape further trouble.

The Lancers then capitalized in the top of the seventh, as freshman center fielder Ashley Howe (Winchendon, MA) singled through the left side and later scored on a RBI double by Crossman.

Kelly then followed with her eventual game-winning RBI single.

Mahoney allowed just one earned run and scattered five hits in the complete-game effort to post her third win of the year.

Elms College freshman pitcher Courtney Hampton (Westfield, MA) allowed just two earned runs on 10 hits in the complete-game loss.

The Blazers return to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play when they host Becker in a doubleheader at Condon Field on Saturday, April 4. Game one is set for 2:00 p.m.
