Danbury, CT --- Junior righty Brittany Connors (Waterford, CT) pitched a complete-game shut out in the nightcap to help the WestConn softball team earn a split with Worcester State College at Westside Field on Thursday night.

The Lancers, 9-9, captured the opener, 10-4 and the Colonials won the second game, 6-0 to raise their record to 6-10.

Connors, now 2-3, allowed four harmless singles, struck out two and walked five on the night.

Ashlie Morris (Wolcott, CT) lead the WestConn offensive attack with a pair of doubles and scored two runs. Luigina Facchini (Voluntown, CT) went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in.

The Colonials scored a run in each of the first three innings and added a trio of insurance runs in the sixth.

Sophomore Marcy Rumrill (Orange, MA) suffered her first loss of the season (3-1) after allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out one. Only three of the runs allowed were earned due to an error and two pass balls.

In the opener, second-year Erica Cordio (Leominster, MA) went 4-for-4 with a triple and two doubles. She drove in two run and scored one.

Freshman Melissa Beaudry (Worcester, MA) went 1-for-4 and belted her first collegiate home run in the Lancer's three-run second inning.

Freshman Kate Souder (Milford, MA) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

The Lancers pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of four WestConn errors in a game that lasted nearly two hours.

Junior Michaella Mahoney (Shrewsbury, MA) earned the victory and is now 5-5 on the season. She allowed four runs, two of them earned on six hits while striking out four and walking two.

Kara Cullinane (Lindenhurst, MY) took the loss after allowing eight runs, six earned, struck out five and walked three in six innings of work.

WestConn continues its six-game homestand with a doubleheader against University of Southern Maine this Saturday. First pitch is slated for 12 noon. The Lancers will take on Westfield State in a non-conference twinbill at the same time against Westfield State.
