Women's Lacrosse Defeats Emerson on Late Goal, 10-9

Boston, MA --- Angela Johnson (Ashby, MA) scored on an open net free-position goal with 8.8 seconds remaining in to give Worcester State College (2-0) a 10-9 victory over Emerson College (6-3) in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.

Emerson had tied the score with 26.2 seconds left on an unassisted goal by Meaghan Ross (Wrentham, MA) after Ross pulled the Lions to within one with an unassisted tally with 36.2 ticks left on the clock.

The Lions had fallen behind 9-7 at the 3:02 mark when Worcester's Shannon Feeley (West Springfield, MA) hit a free-position goal. 

The game was close throughout with Emerson taking early leads of 2-0 and 3-1.  Worcester closed the first half with five consecutive goals, four by Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA), for a 6-3 lead that was the largest of the contest.

Emerson pulled within 6-5 on goals by Jess Kalikow (Brookline, MA) on an assist by Ross, and a Laura Miley (Cranston, R.I.) unassisted marker with just over two minutes expired in the second half.  The teams then traded goals with Johnson, Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA), and Feeley scoring for the Lancers, while Emerson countered with goals from Katie Peters (Acton, MA) and Ross setting up the last minute fireworks.

Worcester goal keeper Lyndsey Nunes (Westfield, MA) had a great night in the net making 14 saves, including stopping four of eight free-position goals.

Emerson next hosts Fitchburg State College Sunday evening at 5:30, while Worcester travels to Becker College for a noon Saturday face off.
