Worcester State 15, Westfield State 11
Worcester, MA --- The Worcester State College women's lacrosse team got six goals from junior Shannon Feeley (West Springfield, MA) as they concluded their New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance regular season schedule Saturday afternoon with a, 15-11, win over the visiting Westfield State College Owls at Coughlin Field.
The win improves Worcester State to 7-3 (5-2 NEWLA) and drops
Westfield State to 7-6 (4-3 NEWLA). Worcester State has
clinched a playoff berth and currently stands in third place in the
NEWLA. Westfield State is still in the playoff hunt and
currently holding the fifth spot in the conference.
Feeley scored four of her six goals in the first half as Worcester
State led, 7-6, at the break. Other goal scorer's for the
Lancers were Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA),
Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA) and Carley
MacIntyre (Townsend, MA). Westfield State was paced
in the first half by Alex Hudyka (East Longmeadow,
MA) and Amanda Aborn (Waltham, MA) who each
tallied a pair of first half goals. Ally
Brown (Andover, MA), and Whitney Baugh
(Wilbraham, MA) also found the back of the net for the Owls.
Westfield State opened the second half with three straight goals to
take a, 9-7, lead after the first five minutes of action.
Freshman Laura Chiricosta (Lexington, MA) scored a
pair and Baugh added her second of the day to give the Owls the
momentum. The Lancers responded strongly; however, as they
put up eight straight goals to put the game out of reach.
Jamieson had three in the second half to go along with two each
from Angela Johnson (Ashby, MA) and Feeley.
Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) rounded out
the Lancer scoring. Rachel Dionne (Feeding
Hills, MA) and Chiricosta scored late goals late for Westfield
State to account for the, 15-11, final.
Senior Lyndsey Nunes (West Springfield, MA)
made 10 saves in earning the victory. Kasey
Rogers (West Springfield, MA) stopped 7 shots for the
Owls.
Along with Feeley's six goals and one assist, Jamieson scored four
and added an assist. Feeley, who is the Lancers' second
all-time leading scorer, reached a milestone on her third goal of
the game as it was the 100th goal of her
career. Westfield State's Chiricosta tallied the hat
trick for the Owls.
Worcester State will travel to Rhode Island College on
Tuesday. Westfield State will visit Framingham State on
Tuesday.
