Women's Soccer Falls On The Road, 2-1, To Keene State

Keene, NH --- Keene State sophomore Brittany Tolla (Sandy Hook, CT) hit home the game winning marker on an unassisted tally in the 87th minute to help lead the Owls to a 2-1 victory over Worcester State in non-conference women's soccer action at the Owls Athletic Complex.

With the win Keene State improve to 7-6 overall while the Lancers fall to 8-3 in the setback

Following a scoreless opening stanza that saw the hosts hold a slight 7-6 margin in shots, senior Alyssa Sawyer (W. Springfield, MA) helped WSU break the ice in the 60th minute.

Sophomore Kendal Bergenholtz (N. Grafton, MA) streaked down the right side of the field and hit an open Sawyer, who sniped her first goal of the campaign.

Keene State evened the score nearly 12 minutes later when freshman Shannon Hart (Swanzey, NH) slipped past the back line and netted her first collegiate goal with some help by classmate Morgan Kathan (Ludlow, VT).

Tolla helped lift the Owls with the match clincher in the closing minutes of the contest as she unleashed a shot from 20 yards away and potted her first of the season for the match clincher.

Soon after Tolla's goal, the Lancers had a great chance to tie things up on a corner kick, but could not take advantage of the opportunity. Keene State actually did not allow the visitors to earn a clean look at the net in the final 25 minutes of the game.

Sophomore Dannielle Warhall (Spofford, NH) earned the victory for the Owls after starting the second half between the pipes. Warhall (2-0) was not called upon to make a save as senior Victoria Crenson (N. Salem, NY) stopped two shots while she went the first 45 minutes

Junior Jillian Witkowski (Leicester, MA) registered five saves in the loss for the Blue and Gold while her record drops to 7-3.

Keene State finished with the 13-9 edge in shots. Worcester State actually led in corners, 4-1, with two in each stanza.

Worcester State looks to rebound while remaining unbeaten in MASCAC play with a 7 PM evening matchup against Mass Maritime on the road. The Owls host UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at 1 o'clock in a LEC affair.
