WORCESTER, Mass., - The Worcester State Lancers defeated the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Trailblazers by a score of 3-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field in Worcester. Worcester State's senior forward Haley Mignon (Tewksbury, MA) netted two goals as the Lancers earned their first MASCAC victory of the season in as many contests.

How It Happened

The Lancers put early pressure on Trailblazers keeper Jillian Currier (Troy, NY), but Currier stood tall in net stopping the first 19 shots on goal. Mignon was finally able to crack the Trailblazers keeper in the 33^rd minute of play, recording her third goal on the season and first of the game.

With just under 7-minutes into the second half Mignon would tally her second of the afternoon on an assist from junior midfielder Haley Samara (Worcester, MA). The play was set as Erin Condon fired the ball at the MCLA net. The ball was blocked by a Trailblazer defender, and picked up by Samara. Samara put the ball of the crossbar of the MCLA keeper, Currier. Mignon crashed the goal, picking up the loose ball to find the back right corner of the net.

The final score of the afternoon 18-minutes later came from first-year Maya Sullivan (Belchertown, MA) on an assist by senior Hailey Skowronski (Douglas, MA). The score marked Sullivan's first collegiate goal.

The Trailblazers had two scoring opportunities, both from first-year Cidnee Frymire (Tonawanda, NY); however Lancer keeper Mallory Dupuis (Leominster, MA) turned away both attempts in the victory. Currier stopped 37 of 40 shots on goal in the contest.
