Lancers Unable to Topple Bears in Comeback Bid

Worcester, MA- The Lancers Women's Soccer team (1-3-1, 0-0) begin their quest for the MASCAC championship this evening as they head to Bridgewater State in the MASCAC opener for the Women. The Lancers are looking to continue their conference success this season and coming off a tie earlier this week over Keene State, the Lancers are looking for an early conference win.

Final

Worcester State: 1

Bridgewater State: 2

How it Happened:

The Lancers would open up the game with the first shot on target coutersey of junior Erin Condon's (East Bridgewater, MA) strike. The Bears would find some momentum by playing the ball quickly out to their offensive wings racking up two shots on target before they would score their first of the day. The Lancers would calm down after going down 1-0 and make some good efforts towards the goal but none would cross the pivotal line for a score. With just about 15 minutes to go in the half Bridgewater would score their second of the day to go up 2-0.

This is one of the most dangerous scores in soccer as many team will ease off the petal with a cushion lead and in the second half the Bears did just that, and the Lancers seized the moment. Condon would look for a deep shot in the 53' minute but the Bridgewater keeper would bobble the hold leaving sophomore Ava Lemanski (Clinton, MA) free to gather it up for an empty net goal. Worcester would spend the remainder of the half looking for the equalizer but Bridgewater would keep it locked down around the cage.

Bridgewater would claim the 16-13 shot advantage in the game with sophomore Ella Gumienny (Douglas, MA) coming away with seven saves.

What's Next:

Worcester State (1-4-1, 0-1) return to homefield action on Wednesday when they host Clark University at 7pm for a neighborhood battle under the lights.
