Women's Indoor Track Takes Home Third Staight MASCAC Championship

Gorham, ME --- Junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA) helped Worcester State capture three Alliance titles and set meet records as she helped the Lancers earn their third-straight MASCAC Indoor Championship this evening at Southern Maine.

WSU took home the trophy with 242 points as they tied a meet record that was set by the 2006 Westfield State women's team. The Blue and Gold were edged 32 points by hosting Huskies who scored 168 points to the Lancers total of 136.

Wise would clock times of 7.23 in the 55 meters and 25.30 in the 200 while she helped the 4x200 meter relay squad that was also comprised of freshman classmates Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) and Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) and senior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA).

Sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) captured first in the Alliance 55 meter hurdles (8.39) to reset the meet record before she placed second in the 55 (7.29). Deininger's 55 meter hurdle time also eclipsed a 17-year mark that was a hand-time held by Lancer Hall of Famer Elke Aun (8.3 - 8.51 FAT).

In the field, second-year Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) shattered her own school mark in the shot put for an Alliance title (12.30m/40-4.25) as senior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) earned first in the MASCAC in the long jump (5.21m/17-1.25). Freshman Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA), ran the best MASCAC time in the 400 (1:00.98) and the second highest time in the Alliance.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Hodgerney and freshman teammates Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and Kim West (Harvard, MA) along with sophomore Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) placed second in the Alliance to break the school record with a time of 3:07.90. The squad also broke the previous program standard that was set last season at the Open New Englands (4:08.15).

Junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) came second in the MASCAC with a school-record time in the 3,000 (10:36.03).

Other notable MASCAC finishes included freshman Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) who added second in the long jump (5.11m/16-9.25) and 55 meter hurdles (8.94) as McMahon was third in the 400 (1:01.64).

Jasper also placed third in the shot put (11.11m/36-05.50) and sophomore Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) registered third in the weight throw (12.47m/40-11). Freshman Therese Morss (Marion, MA) had a leap of third in the triple jump (10.68m/35-00.50) as sophomore Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) cleared third in the pole vault (2.60m/8-6).

Rafferty crossed the finish line in second in the 200 (26.84) and third in the 55 (7.47) as sophomore Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) was third in the 800 (2:28.53). Second-year Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) tallied third in the 1,000 (3:14.91) and classmate Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) was fourth in the 3,000 (10:58.69).

Sophomore Cathy Chude (Marlboro, MA) placed third in the 55 meter hurdles and fifth in the shot put (9.90m/32-05.75).

The 4x800 meter relay team of Hickey, Cartwright, Barrett and Donohue earned All-Alliance honors with fourth-place (10:19.04).
