Jasper Named Corvais ECAC Division III New England Field  Athlete of the Week

 

Centerville, MA --- Junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has been distinguished with Corvais ECAC Division III New England Field Athlete of the Week accolades after a standout performance at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield this past weekend.

Jasper earned dual All-New England honors at the Division III New England Championships with the top throw in the open javelin (143-11/43.88m) while also breaking an eight-year record in the heptathlon with 4,741 points that was held by Rachel Smith of Bridgewater State (2006).

Her marks in the heptathlon included the top finishes in the javelin (135-4/41.26m), 100 meter hurdles (15.22) and shot put (37-11.25/11.56m) as well as second in the 800 meters (2:20.93) and 200 (26.11).

She also ran the third leg 4x100 meter relay that claimed fourth overall for All-New England laurels(48.01).

With her outstanding efforts over the weekend, she moved up to fifth in the NCAA Division III outdoor rankings in the javelin, seventh in the heptathlon and the relay team is tied for the 14th best spot nationally. She is just 391 points off of sophomore Amelia Campbell (Sturgeon Bay, WI) who leads in the heptathlon.

The top 22 individual heights, times, distances and point totals in addition to the top 16 splits in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay's qualify for the Outdoor Championships during the week of May 22.

Jasper was also tabbed the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second time on the campaign.

Worcester State will compete again this weekend at the Open New England Championships hosted by Westfield State.
