Borowiec and Hart Receive Nod for MASCAC Weekly Honors

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior outfielder Matt Hart (N. Easton, MA) and junior right hander Mike Borowiec (Spencer, MA) have each been tabbed for MASCAC Weekly Honors for helping lead the Lancers to a 5-1 week. Hart shared the honor of MASCAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week while Borowiec was named the MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Hart batted .412 (7-for-17) with four home runs, five runs batted in, two stolen bases and 10 runs scored as he belted a pair of lead-off home runs in a sweep of Westfield State and added three hits –including a homer and a triple – in a 12-11 setback to Division II Assumption.

Hart, who is batting .333 this season, currently is tied for first in the MASCAC in home runs (5), second in stolen bases (13), second in total bases, tied for second in runs scored (22) while he is fifth in slugging percentage (.640). Hart also has three triples and 16 RBIs this year as well.

Borowiec was outstanding this past week as he tossed a complete game allowing just one run in a 3-1 triumph over Westfield State. Borowiec scattered six hits while fanning eight in the victory. After allowing a run to cross the plate in the first inning, Borowiec settled down to retire 16 of the last 22 batters he faced.

Borowiec (2-1) has posted a 2.28 ERA, which is fourth best in the conference, while he is also third in the team in innings pitched (23.2) and second on the team in strikeouts (19).

Worcester State is 13-9 and a perfect 4-0 in MASAC play. The Lancers look to continue their season when they face off against Anna Maria at Holy Cross on Wednesday and entertain Salem State in a conference double header at WPI.
