Worcester State Falls At Bridgewater, 82-57

Bridgewater, MA --- Senior forward Dwayne Wilkerson (East Providence, RI) scored a game-high 17 points, while senior guard Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) added 16 to lead Bridgewater State College to an 82-57 victory over Worcester State in MASCAC men's basketball action on Tuesday night in Bridgewater.

The Bears even up their record to 11-11 and 5-5 in the MASCAC, while the Lancers slip to 10-14 overall and 3-8 in conference play.

For BSC, senior forward Roland Millien (Stoughton, MA) notched his ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Anthony Goss (Boston, MA) chipped in with 5 rebounds, 5 points, 5 assists, and a team-high 3 steals in just 18 minutes of action off the bench. Wilkerson also pulled down 6 rebounds for the Bears. 

Millien scored all ten of his points in the first half while Cuddihy and Wilkerson registered 13 and 8 points respectively in the second stanza. Cuddihy connected on 3-for-4 three-point attempts in the second half. Wilkerson was a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor for the game and hit on his only free throw attempt.

Senior guard Ryan Frassica (Brockton, MA) was the only Lancer in double-figures with 10 points. Senior center Josh Barry (Sheffield, MA) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while he also scored 6 points.

Bridgewater State out-rebounded Worcester State 43-33 while WSC forced 24 turnovers thanks in part to 15 steals. The Bears held the Lancers to 35% (23-for-65) shooting from the field and 29% (6-for-23) from behind the three-point arc, while BSC connected on 53% (35-for-66) of their field goal attempts.  

Bridgewater State opened the game with an 8-0 spurt, holding Worcester State scoreless for the first 2½ minutes of play. The Lancers responded with a 9-0 run of their own to take and early 9-8 lead. With Worcester clinging to a 16-14 advantage, the Bears went on a 14-5 run over the next seven minutes bringing the score to a 28-20 BSC with 4:45 left in the first half. Bridgewater State did not allow a single basket over the last two minutes as the Bears closed out the stanza with a 6-0 run and headed to the locker-room with a 39-27 advantage.

In the second half, the Bears continued to build up their lead as they outscored Worcester State 18-8 over the first seven minutes and led 57-35 with 13 minutes left on the clock.  Worcester would not threaten the rest of the way with Bridgewater State's largest lead coming at the 3:35 mark (76-51).

Both teams will play Salem State in the next week. Bridgewater State will visit the Vikings on Thursday at 8 p.m. and then the Lancers will close out their season with a 4 o'clock home game on Saturday.
