Horton Named To Division III Senior NEBCA All-Star Game

Babson Park, MA --- Men's Basketball forward Maurice Horton (Detroit, MI) has been named to the home team of the Division III New England Coaches Basketball Assocation Senior All-Star game to be played on Sunday, April 18 at Babson College's Staake Gymnasium. The match will be a fundraiser for the organization's Coaches versus Cancer campaign.

Four other representatives from the MASCAC were also tabbed to the squad which included Bridgewater's Matt McLaughlin (Rochester, MA) and Framingham State teamates Darius Yarrell (Brockton, MA) and Josue Almodovar (Holyoke, MA). The two teams feature teams from all conferences throughout New England along with All-Americans and players who will be continuing their careers overseas.

The roster was put together by several committees made up of area coaches and have been released by Stephen Brennan, NEBCA President and head coach of Babson College's men's basketball team.

Horton, a two-time All-MASCAC first-team honoree was recently named an All-New England ECAC All-Star one month ago. Horton finished the regular season leading the conference in points (513), total points (20.5) and assists (4.56) while he was also second in rebounding (9.0) and total assists (114). Horton was also third in total rebounds with 225 boards. His NCAA Division III ranks in points, rebounding and assists are ranked 34th, 59th and 62nd, respectively, as of the final statistics rankings.

Horton also ranked in the top ten in several other MASCAC categories which include finishing the season second in defensive rebounding (6.32), fourth in total blocks (24), sixth in offensive rebounding (2.68), ninth in three-point percentage (.339) and free throw percentage (.633) and tenth in field goal percentage (.454).

Horton ended his two-year Worcester State career 15th on the all-time scoring list with 1,110 points as he joined his brother Mario Horton (1997-2001), who is ninth with 1,428 points. The siblings joined Al Pettway (2,205; 1990-94) and Kevin Pettway (1,061; 1997-98 & 1999-2000) as the only other brothers who have scored 1,000 points in program history.

Horton’s per game averages are 21.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.04 assists while he totaled 485 caroms and 206 dishes. Horton also ended his career in a WSC uniform with 51 steals and 41 blocks.

The coaches for the home team will be John Ginnity and Patrick Oroszko of Clark while the coaches for the away team will be Eric McKoy and Todd Dean of Brandies and Elms, respectively.
