Lanceres Struggle in Return versus Cardinals

Lanceres Struggle in Return versus Cardinals

Worcester, MA- After over a week off, and a holiday break to celebrate, the Worcester State Men's Basketball team (2-5, 0-0) welcome the Wesleyan Cardinals to Worcester. Worcester is looking to get back on the winning track before the holidays and take down the second of their four NEPSAC foes before starting conference play.

Final

Worcester State: 49

Wesleyan: 78

How it Happened:

In tonight's highly anticipated matchup between the Wesleyan Cardinals  and the Worcester State Lancers the Cardinals started hot and stayed aflame for most of the game as they gained a quick ten point lead. Worcester State was able to keep it close for the most of the first half, grabbing the edge in the three point percentage. Unfortunately this was not enough to offset Wesleyan's hot offense as they were able to leave the half up 44-22. Sophomore Jaylen Kirkland (Gardner, MA) and junior Ayme Daguilh (West Boylston, MA) had some solid play as they both accounted for five of the Blue and Golds 22 points in the first half.

The second half unfortunately held the same fate for the Lancers as the Cardinals stayed hot but Worcester was able to mitigate some of their heat with an offensive bout of their own. The Blue and Gold were able to put up a more solid shooting percentage than the first half and played team defense to control the burst of Cardinal attack, helping create more scoring opportunities by using their speed on the floor. Daguilh would finish the night with 13 points and seven rebounds for Worcester.

What's Next:

The Lancers (2-6, 0-0) are right back in action on Saturday when they host Lasell at 1pm in their second to last game before the Christmas break. Game time is set for 1pm.
