Goris Leads Lancers in Second Half Surge to Take Down Bears

Worcester, MA- Coming off a down to the wire meeting with Westfield on Wednesday, the Worcester State Men's Basketball team (4-11, 1-1) face off in their first of two MASCAC Championship rematches from last year as they head to Bridgewater State (5-10, 0-3) to grab their second win in conference.

Final

Worcester State: 92

Bridgewater State: 86

How it Happened:

The Bears would begin the scoring with a 6-0 run before Junior Ayme Daguilh (West Boylston, MA) would hit a three to begin the Lancer's momentum. The Bears and Lancers would trade baskets in the opening minutes while Bridgewater worked to build their lead to 10 before a Worcester timeout would force the team to settle into their defensive rhythm in a bid to close the gap in the first half. Worcester would find their offensive success late in the opening half as they cut the Bears lead down to single digits to stay with just five minutes remaining. A senior Suubi Nkugwa (Chelmsford, MA) hitting a last second three to take a 42-39 score into the break. Junior Shawn Hebert (Ayer, MA) led the half with nine points.

The second half was Al Worcester as they found their attack and quickly took control of the game. The scoring would start with a bang as Daguilh would grab the early dunk to cut the game to one point followed by a first year Camdyn Shoesmith (Bedford, MA) layup and graduate student Sam Davies (Worcester, MA) following the lead to claim the lead for the Lancers. Worcester charged to a 12 point lead before the Bears began to work their way back into the action. Senior Brandon Goris (Bronx, MA) would hit a clutch three to keep a solid lead and momentum for Worcester with still nine minutes to go. He would follow it up two minutes later with a layup to break a tie with the Bears and set the Lancers on an offensive course that they would hold until the final horn to claim the 92-86 victory.

Goris ended the game with 28 points while Shoesmith would again record a double-double on the day with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
