Ice Hockey Comes From Behind To Draw Westfield State, 2-2

Westfield, MA --- Worcester State rallied for two third-period goals to tied Westfield State , 2-2, in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening.

It was the home opener for the Owls, who are 1-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the MASCAC. Worcester is 1-2-1 and 0-1-1 in league action.

The Owls opened the scoring on a goal by freshman Frank Zuccaro (Newmarket, Ontario) with 6:06 left in the first. Westfield State took a 2-0 lead with 5:28 left in the second stanza on a power play goal from sophomore Taylor Murphy (Toronto, Ontario). Juinor Brad Norkum (Porcupine, Ontario) assisted on both markers.

Outshooting the hosts, 22-4, in the third period, Worcester State rallied for the draw. First-year Brenton Dyok (Rocklin, CA) scored to slice the lead in half, 2-1, near the midpoint of the third period for his first collegiate goal. 

Freshman Andrew Pierson (Clovis, CA), who assisted on the first goal, then tallied the game-tying goal on a power play with 7:49 remaining in regulation. The penalty on the Owls was the only man in the box for either team in the third frame.

Westfield State outshot the Blue and Gold, 5-2, in the overtime stanza.

Senior goalie Ian Wilson (Tulsa, OK) made 46 saves for the hosts, who were outshot, 48-30, on the strength of the Lancers' third-period shooting barrage. Fourth-year Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawanda, NY) stopped 28 shots for WSU.

The Lancers were 1-for-6 with the extra man advantage for the game while the Owls scored on one of their three chances.

Both teams will continue their MASCAC schedule on the road on Saturday. Worcester State heads to Fitchburg State for a 4 PM game while Westfield State plays Framingham State at 7:30.
