Fallica Named MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Freshman Tyler Fallica (Coram, NY/Ogden Mustangs) has been selected MASCAC Rookie of the Week for his outstanding performance in a victory over UMass Dartmouth this past Thursday.

Fallica turned aside all 24 shots on goal he saw in a 4-0 triumph over the Corsairs as he collected his first collegiate shutout in the win.

Thus far this season, Fallica has posted a 2-5-1 record with a 2.46 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Prior to the victory against UMD, he had been the tough luck loser in his last three decisions to Framingham State, Plymouth State and Salem State in a trio of one-goal setbacks.

Among goal tending leaders in the MASCAC, Fallica currently tops the conference in goals against average and his save percentage is second.

As a team, the Lancers defense is first the league in total goals allowed (56) and second in tallies allowed per game (3.11) and due in large part to Fallica, the Blue and Gold have permitted just 21 markers to cross between the pipes since the beginning of the winter semester (3.00 per game).

Ironically, Fallica's other MASCAC Rookie of the Week honor this season came on January 12 after he earned his first career win over UMass Dartmouth.

Worcester State entertains two opponents in the next week at the Hart Recreation Center in 8 PM face-offs. The Lancers start off with Westfield State tonight before taking on Fitchburg State on Thursday.
