Lancers Drop Back and Forth Battle to Falcons

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's Hockey team look to even their MASCAC record at 2- 2 in the  2023-2024 campaign in a MASCAC battle with Fitchburg State. The Lancers look to build off their 14 win season last year and compete for a MASCAC championship.

The Lancers got off to a great start as they found the back of the net in the opening minute as sophomore Anders Grongstad (Royal Oak, MI) scored as he was assisted by graduate student Brendan Ronan (Saugus, MA). The Lancers weren't done scoring as junior Max Tucker(Kalamazoo, MI) scored the lancers second goal as he was assisted by junior Martin Dlugolinsky (Stara Lubovna, Slovakia).

 

The Lancers continued their strong performance as they controlled much of the 2nd period with their strong defense and goaltending. Ronan picked up his 2nd point of the game as he scored the Lancers 3rd goal, assisted by junior Bridgham Neuhold (Edmond, OK). Fitchburg would not go away however as they fought back scoring 2 goals in a minute span to cut the Lancer lead to 3-2.

 

Fitchburg still refused to quit as they found the back of the net twice again early in the 3rd period to take their first lead of the game 4-3. The Lancers fought hard throughout the remainder of the 3rd period to tie it up, but ultimately came up short. Junior Wyatt Friedlander (Lake Placid, NY) recorded an impressive 43 save performance for the blue and gold.



The Lancers, who now sit at (1-4,1-3) return to the ice Tuesday night  when they travel to play Plymouth State for the second time this season in a MASCAC matchup, with a 6pm puck drop . Fitchburg State now sits at (4-1-2,3-0-2)  on the season.
