Suffolk: 5
How it Happened:
The Rams and Lancers were off to a quick start in the Wednesday night battle with each team looking to claim a piece of the ice and the victory. Suffolk would get first crack with a goal halfway through the opening period off a deflected save from senior Wyatt Friedlander (Lake Placid, NY). Some Lancers who made it a point of emphasis to get shots on target were Anders Grostand and Brigham Nuehold. A second goal would close out the scoring action in the first with Suffolk grabbing an early 2-0 lead.
Suffolk would add to their lead in the third just five minutes into the new period to extend their lead to 3. The Lancers would fight back by making sure they capitalized on their power plays. Graduate student Brian Clougherty (Lynn, MA) would score the first goal of the game for Worcester. This goal would come very early into an awarded power play off a Rams cross checking penalty. Suffolk would not waste any time putting the score back up by three as they would record their fourth goal with just two minutes left to go in the second. The last faceoff of the period would go to the Rams and they would run off the clock to go into the period break with a 3 goal advantage.
The Lancers would get the first couple of shots on target to open up the third period and would do a good job at not getting into foul trouble for the opening seven minutes but in a 4 minute stretch there would be two power plays awarded to the Rams. Suffolk would score to extend the lead to 4 after 5 saves in under a minute by Friedlander which would see him eclipse the 45 save mark. The match would end up with Friendlander recording 50 saves while senior Brigham Neuhold (Edmond, OK) would lead the team with shots on goal with 3 and also have an assist to Cloughterty for the lone goal of the day for the Lancers.
