Men's Soccer Uses Strong First-Half To Defeat Westfield State, 3-1

Westfield, MA --- Senior Andrew Babineau (Webster, MA) scored two goals to lead Worcester State University to a 3-1 victory over Westfield State University in MASCAC men's soccer this evening.

Worcester State is 4-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the MASCAC while Westfield State is 8-3-1 and 2-1-1. The Blue and Gold are in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings with the Owls and Bridgewater State.

The Lancers scored twice in the opening nine minutes. Freshman Michael Jordan (Ludlow, MA) scored 7:26 into the game with an assist from Alex Wolfel (Unionville, MA).

Babineau scored his first goal 1:34 later to stake the Lancers to the early 2-0 lead. Worcester increased its lead to 3-0 in the 58th minute on Babineau's second goal and Wolfel's second assist.

Owl senior Josh Severns (Sufield, CT) scored an unassisted goal in the 79th minute.

Westfield State outshot Worcester State, 14-7, and controlled the corner kicks, 10-1. Lancer fourth-year goalie Evan Wilga (Dudley, MA) made seven saves.

The Lancers will play again on Wednesday when they travel to St. Joeseph's (Maine) for a 3:30 contest against the Monks. The Owls travel to Williams for a 4:15 PM matchup on Tuesday.
