Second Half Action Finds Breakaway Goal Off Bayonne's Boot

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State men's soccer team was back in action Tuesday evening as they look to get back in the win column against Springfield College. The Lancers are coming off a 1-0 defeat Saturday at home against MCLA.

The Lancers welcomed the Springfield College Pride to John Coughlin Field Tuesday night. The Lancers and Pride were in a defensive affair for the entirety of the first half as quality shot attempts were few and far in between. The Pride had five total shots in the first half, while the Lancers only netted three attempts in the half. 

 

Springfield broke the scoreless tie, seven minutes into the second half as Chris Cruz netted the opening goal. The Lancers responded, as junior Matthieu Bayonne (Springfield, MA) scored on a breakaway goal midway through the second half to knot it up at one.  Senior Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA) was outstanding in net for the Lancers all evening long, knocking away attempts and breaking up numerous threats in the box. 

 

Ramirez recorded 11 saves on the night as the Lancers had five shots, with three finding the cage frame.

 

The Lancers, who now sit at (2-5-4, 1-3) return to the field Saturday morning as they travel to Framingham to take on the Framingham State Rams with a 11am start time currently slated.  Springfield now sits at (4-4-4) on the season.
