Gorham, ME --- Junior classmates Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) and RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) along with freshman Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) each took the top spot in three events to help pace the Worcester State men's indoor track and field team to a third place finish out of six teams at the Southern Maine Invitational.
Bates won the men's crown with 213 points followed by the host Huskies (198.5) while the Lancers notched 82 total points. The other team finishes included Emmanuel in fourth (53), Clark in fifth (5) and St. Joes of Maine in sixth (1).
Starling continues to impress as he took home first in the 55 meter dash (6.64), second in the 55 meter hurdles (8.00) and eighth in the 200 (24.66). Stahelski notched first in the 600 (1:24.49) to break the school record and fifth in the 200 (24.49) as Mazeka recorded his first individual 800 title of his career (2:01.61).
The sprinters were also paced by freshman Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) who registered third in the 400 (54.45) while classmate Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) finished fifth in the 55 (6.84) and first-year Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) added sixth in the 200 (24.56).
Stahelski, Parella, Mazeika and Paquin also clocked third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:43.05.
In the field, senior captain Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) chalked up second in the long jump (6.26m) while sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) placed seventh in the pole vault (3.59m)
Sophomore Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) had a tossed seventh in the shot put as freshman Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) wrapped things up with seventh in the weight throw (12.49m) and eighth in the shot put (12.42m) as both tosses were over 40 feet for personal bests.
Next Saturday the Lancers hit the track at the Smith Invitational as a warm up to the MASCAC Championships in two weeks.
