WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's sophomore jumper, Justin Lewis (Lynn, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's indoor track athlete of the week for his personal record performance in the high jump at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational.
"Justin continues to impress his coaches almost every week in the high jump," mentioned head coach Al Halper. "With the exception of last week, he has dominated the competition and has been at number one in the country for most of the season."
Lewis marked an indoor personal record in the high jump at 2.14m/7-00.25, earning first place in the event. He was just 0.75 inches shy of his overall personal record which he marked at the 2017 NCAA DIII Outdoor National Championships.
"Justin's rebound this week from last was exceptional and he exhibits his mental toughness and preparation continually. He works very hard at practice, whether it be running workouts or drills in order to improve all aspects of jumping," said Halper. "He has PR'ed several times this season in the high jump and we hope he can really 'raise the bar' to new levels before going to nationals."
Lewis also competed in the triple jump this past weekend with a seventh place finish (12.27m/40-03.25).
