WESTFIELD, Mass. – After a strong start to the season at the Joe Donahue Games Opener this past weekend, three members of the Worcester State men's and women's indoor track and field teams were recognized as Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Athletes of the Week.
Senior Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) was named Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while senior Kyle Haley (Mansfield, Mass.) earned Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
On the women's side, junior Avonia Herbert (Sharon, Mass.) was selected as Field Athlete of the Week.
Carleton took first place in the men's mile with a time of 4:36.80 on Saturday evening as the Worcester State men's track and field team opened their 2021-22 season at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Mass. Haley finished third in the triple jump with a top leap of 12.80m/ 42' for Worcester State. Haley also competed in the 60m, finishing in 7.89, which placed him 17th in his preliminary.
Herbert won the triple jump with a top leap of 9.70m/31' 10". She topped a pair of Worcester State teammates in the event.
Herbert was also a finalist in the 200 meters, placing 8th (28.37), and the 60 meters, where she was also an eighth-place finisher (8.62).
After a pause for the winter break, the Lancers will head back to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University on January 28th.
