Field Events Turn In Strong Showing At UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational

North Dartmouth, MA --- Senior James Macera (Paxton, MA) highlighted two first place finishes as the Worcester State men’s outdoor track and field team took home second at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational with 111 total team points.

Macera had tosses of 37.18 meters in the discus and 46.15 meters in the hammer while classmate Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) added a top finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.22 meters. Sophomore Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) rounded out the group as he cleared 3.50 meters for the best finish in the pole vault.

Freshman Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) notched third in the long jump (5.90m) before he placed fifth in the 100 meter dash (11.61) and eighth in the 200 (23.75). Sophomore Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) tossed second in the shot put (12.50m) while classmate Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) was the runner-up in the 110 meter hurdles (15.78).

Freshman Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) registered third in the 400 meter hurdles while sophomore RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA) chipped in with a pair of fourth place finishes in the 400 (51.84) and 200 (22.91).

Junior Tyler Russell (Princeton, MA) recorded fifth in the shot put (11.55m) and discus (36.30m) while first-year Sebastian Bilenschuk (Mansfield, MA) added sixth in the discus (35.02m).

Freshman Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) took seventh in the 100 (11.71) as classmate Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) placed seventh in the 800 (2:06.37). Senior Norm Everett (W. Bridgewater, MA) capped off the day as he finished eighth in the 5,000 (18:27.79).

In relay action, the 4x100 meter relay team placed third with a time of 44:93 as the 4x400 squad added fifth as they clocked 3:43.53.

Next week the Lancers head to the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College in preparation for the MASCAC Championships in two Saturday’s.
