Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's Outdoor Track and Field traveled to UMass Dartmouth for their second meet of the season on Saturday to compete at the Corsair Classic. Sophomore Brodie Jacques (Rehoboth, MA) was again a podium main stay in his events in the afternoon along with strong results from several fellow Lancers both on the track and in the field.
Jacques had top results in both his high jump competition, coming in first place with a 1.75m jump as well as his 100m meter performance where he crossed in a time of 11.56 seconds for a second place styling. He also nabbed third in the long jump with a finish of 5.92m. First year Eliezer Gonzalez (Worcester, MA) competed alongside Jacques in the race, finishing in 33rd with a time of 14.23 seconds. The first on the track today though, were not the sprinters but rather first years James Riley (Shrewsbury, MA) and Andrew Stokes (Wilmington, MA). Riley crossed in a time of 4:46.13 for a 15th place tag as Stokes crossed in 28th, with a time of 5:31.05. The largest participant field for Worcester State was in the 400m with five separate runners competing for top marks. Senior Daniel Clark (Worcester, MA) led the pack with his 8th place, 55.94s, race. Senior Brendan Sharkey (Fort Wayne, IN), 58.07 seconds, and first years Alan Gomez ( Clinton, MA), 59.41 seconds, and Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA), 61.03 seconds, came in as tight units going 17th, 19th and 20th. Rounding out the group, only a few spots behind was junior Anthony Paolucci (Billerica, MA) in a time of 66.93 seconds.
The 800m race saw first year Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA)claim the 10th spot in a time of 2:16.93 while junior Matthew Talbot (Belchertown, MA) crossed in 16th at a time of 2:23.48. First year Taylor Gavaletz (Dudley, MA) continued the running success with a 6th place finish at 1:06.60 in the 400m Hurdles. First year Eliezat Gonzalez (Worcester, MA) jumped to a fifth place finish with a leap of 10.53m while fellow first year Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) came in 6th with a leap of 10.13m. Junior Jack Houlihan (Holden, MA) and sophomore Max O'Connor (Dedham, MA) each had strong finishes in the Discus with a 7th place, 38.11m toss, and 9th, 34.63m throw in the event. Houlihan also had a top finish in the hammer with a ninth place 37.55m toss as fellow junior Matt Long (East Bridgewater, MA) came in 13th in the hammer with a 28.8m.
The Lancers Track and Field team is back in action next Saturday when they head to Fitchburg State for the Jim Sheehan Memorial Track Meet.
