Herring Earns MASCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Britt Herring (West Brookfield, Mass.) earned this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) player of the week award, as announced by the conference Monday (Nov. 27) afternoon.

"After shaking off the rust from the off season, Britt is back to All-Conference form and is demanding the ball in the post, finishing her shots, being strong on the boards as well as blocking shots," said head coach Karen Tessmer

Herring, a 6-1 center, averaged 11 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks while shooting 61% (11-18) from the field in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. She marked a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds, going 7-for-8 from the field (87.5%) with four assists and four blocks in the 64-47 win over Wellesley College last night. Earlier in the week, she posted eight points and seven rebounds with an assist and a block in the 64-47 setback to Western New England University.

"She is also growing her game to include perimeter shooting," mentioned Tessmer.  "The standard has been set for the expectations we have for her in the post and our opponents are well aware of her abilities, so it is going to take continued hard work and skill improvement to continue to be a presence in the paint."

The women's basketball team hits the road for the next three games, including a trip to D.C. this upcoming weekend where they will play at Gallaudet. The next game is scheduled for Wednesday (Nov. 29) at Connecticut College.
