Worcester State Women's Basketball Announces 2024-25 Schedule

Worcester, MA- Head Coach Karen Tessmer, in her 31st season at the helm of the Worcester State Lancers, is pleased to announce the 2024-25 Basketball Schedule. Worcester finished last season dropping a tight overtime battle to Salem State in the Quarterfinals and looks to move even further this season, straight to the MASCAC Championship. The Blue and Gold will be led by veteran senior, and second team all MASCAC selection, Katie Hurynowicz alongside dominant fellow senior, forward Abby St. Martin. Joining the determined duo is a cast of skilled returners, such as MASCAC Rookie of the Year Lena Waldron, along with a breadth of new incoming talent to Brissette Court.

“We are very excited about the '24-25 game schedule and the start of the season next week.   We kick off the season with the Worcester City Tip Off Tournament, a great Worcester tradition, in its 43rd year, and then begin our competitive non-conference schedule” states Tessmer. “ We've added newcomers Lasell University, Brandeis University and Math Madness opponent Emerson College along with playing at the Williams Tournament in early December.   Our team is especially excited about our trip to Lisbon, Portugal during semester break for an awesome cultural experience, international exhibition games and a community project with local youth.  We jump right into 2025 with our MASCAC rivals and hope to be playing our best in late February as we compete for a MASCAC Championship!"

The Lancers will kick off this season with the Worcester City Tournament hosted by Anna Maria on the opening weekend, November 8-10th, of Division III Basketball. Worcester will then remain at home for two games of their own, hosting Wellesley on November 13th followed up by Lasell on the 16th.  A single road trip will break up the next home stand as Worcester heads to Newport to take on Salve Regina. Worcester will then return home for two games before Thanksgiving, November 23rd versus New England College and a November 26th meeting versus Keene State before welcoming Springfield after the break on December 3rd. Closing out regular season action for 2024 will find the Blue and Gold and Shooting Touch Tournament hosted by Williams College on December 6th and 7th where they will meet Western New England and Regis. The holidays will then find the squad going international for a stretch, with a visit to Portugal, before returning for the 2025 side of the schedule.

Still in travel mode, the Lancers will head to provide some judgement to Brandeis on January 6th before hosting their annual Math Madness Game against Emerson College on January 8th. Worcester will then jump into a full press of conference games starting on the 11th when they welcome Fitchburg State to Worcester. The travel will begin again as the 15th sends them to Westfield State followed by Bridgewater on the 18th. A three-game home stand will return the team back to Worcester as they meet Salem State on the 22nd followed by Framingham State on the 25th, before stepping away from conference play on the 27th to meet Thomas (ME.). The two away, two home swing would reset their schedule as they close out the first round of conference meeting with MCLA on January 29th before again meeting Fitchburg, this time on the road, to begin February play on the 5th. February 8th would send Westfield to Brissette Court with the Bridgewater Bears appearing four days later, on the 12th. The Lancers would close out their road travels with trips to Salem on the 15th and Framingham State on the 19th, before closing out the regular season at home on February 22nd versus MCLA, which would also serve as this year’s senior game to honor the contributions of the senior class.

“We’re coming into this season with focus and heart” states captain St. Martin and Hurynowicz. “Every game is a step toward a championship, and with our returning teammates and the new talent, we’re ready for the challenge! We start our season off with challenging opponents which prepares us for the MASCAC teams we face starting in January!"
