WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester State University Women's Basketball will host its 15th Annual Math Madness game next Wednesday, January 8th as the Lancers host Emerson College in non-conference action at John P. Brissette Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
Over five hundred students, ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade from the local May St. and Tatnuck Magnet schools, are scheduled to be in attendance for the exciting game and halftime activities.
"There's no game like math madness" says senior captain Katie Hurynowicz. "Having an energetic environment and a positive atmosphere for students and athletes is a great way to start the new year."
This annual event brings area school children onto the Worcester State campus for a unique opportunity to not only watch but be actively involved and interact with a live college basketball game. Each student is provided a packet of basketball-centered math problems to complete over the course of the game, that include questions on scores, court dimensions, player statistics, and more.
At the game's conclusion, all attendees will get a chance to meet the players from both teams, as both the Lancers and the Judges will be signing autographs and posing for photos.
"It is a chance for students in the community to look up to us and get to work on their math!!" states fellow senior captain Abby St. Martin.
