Bridgewater State 0, Worcester State 0 2OT
Bridgewater, MA --- In MASCAC women’s soccer action this
afternoon at Swenson Field, Bridgewater State College and Worcester
State College battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie.
The Bears held an edge in play throughout most of the contest
outshooting the Lancers, 18-4, while also holding a 12-3 edge in
corner kicks.
Bridgewater’s best opportunities to break the scoreless tie
both came in the first half as senior midfielder Jacklyn Wisocky
(Brockton, MA) rang the crossbar twice in the 21st minute and again
just over a minute later.
Worcester State was able to clear the ball out both times not
giving the Bears a chance for a rebound. BSC freshman defender
Jillian Herr (Saugus, MA) made a defensive save on a shot by
sophomore midfielder Christina Vernaci (Saugus,
MA) in the 11th minute.
Just over two minutes into the second overtime period, BSC senior
midfielder Christine Soucy (Rockland, MA) ripped a shot off from
just outside the 18 that sailed just over the crossbar.
BSC junior goaltender Kayla Grover (Haverhill, MA) tallied two
saves to record her second shutout of the 2009 campaign. Her
counterpart, junior netminder Rachael Armenti
(West Boylston, MA), turned aside seven shots for her third shutout
of the season.
