Women's Soccer Notches 3-0 Shutout over Plymouth State

Worcester State 3, Plymouth State 0

Worcester, MA --- Senior Nikki Scott (Berlin, MA), freshman Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) and junior Sarah Connors (Gardner, MA) all netted unassisted goals to help lead Worcester State University to a 3-0 triumph over Plymouth State University this evening in non conference women's soccer action.

Scott and Gonet helped put the Lancers (3-2-2) on top 2-0 with a pair of markers early on in the game.

Scott notched her second tally of the season on a header shot that deflected off of the crossbar following a free kick by Connors. Gonet added her team-leading third goal of the year when she made a nice move to get past a defender to take a shot from 10 yards away from the net.

The Panthers (3-4) would face five more shots on net, but the defense would do a great job of neutralizing the attack. Freshman Carol Messler (Durham, NH) would also make two attempts at the opposite side of the field for PSU.

The Lancers would remain on the offensive and capitalized in the 77th minute when Connors found a hole in the back line when she potted her second goal in as many matches.
WSU outshot the visitors 21-4 while also leading in corners by a 5-2 margin.

Senior Rachael Armenti (W. Boylston, MA) turned aside two shots in her second shutout of the season and 16th of her career. Junior Angelina LaBroad (Hampton, NH) made seven stops in the setback for the Panthers.

Both teams continue their respective league schedules when Worcester State hosts Framingham State in MASCAC play in a 10 AM morning battle while Plymouth State travels to Southern Maine in a 1 o'clock LEC matchup.
