Lancers Play to Draw with Vikings

Lancers Play to Draw with Vikings

Worcester, MA- The Lancer Women's Soccer team (6-5-2, 3-2) take on the Salem State Vikings this afternoon in their second to last home game of the season. With three conference games to go, Worcester is looking to grab a top place for postseason action.

Final

Worcester State: 0

Salem State: 0

How it Happened:

In the first half, both Worcester and Salem shared equal possession in the game, with Salem edging out the Lancers with the single lone corner call of the game. In what was an evenly matched offensive 45, both squads worked to find paths into the box. There were solid attempts for each team but the defensive units held strong and would send the game scoreless into halftime.

The second half would be similar to the first half with both teams looking to score, Worcester claiming the 3-1 corner advantage this half but similar to the first, neither team was able to find the space needed for the goal. It was a complete field battle for the full 90 minutes, that saw each team making attempt after attempt and moving the ball through the midfield, but scoring was elusive as the game would end 0-0.

First year Ella Gumienny (Douglas, MA) would wrap up the day with six saves while sophomore Ava Lemanski (Clinton, MA) would lead the team with seven attempts in the game.

What's Next:

Worcester State (6-5-3, 3-2-1) return to Coughlin Field on Tuesday to meet with UMass-Dartmouth in an out-of-conference test of skill. The game will also serve as the team's Lancer Game to promote department wide support and celebration of teams and their senior game to honor this year's senior class.
