N. Adams, MA --- Highlighted by victories at first and second singles by sophomore Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA) and senior Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA), Worcester State blanked MCLA on Friday afternoon, 9-0, at the Zavattaro Athletic Complex.

Candelieri teamed with freshman Natalie Paul (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) for an 8-4 victory at first doubles while JaPaige nkins and junior Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) needed a tie-breaker to dispatch Emily Deaso (Pittsfield, MA) and freshman Mariza Sfakianki (Williamstown, MA) at second doubles 9-8 (7-5).

Junior Paige Moriarty (Feeding Hills, MA) and freshman Rachel Green (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) posted the easy 8-0 win at third doubles to sweep pairs play.

In singles Paul, Shepard, freshman Faina Volf (Sharon, MA) and junior Cassandra Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) all defeated their opponents in consecutive sets to help the Lancers secure their first win of the 2014 campaign.

Worcester State hosts Becker on Wednesday at Wachusett High School in a 3:30 matchup while MCLA entertains Bay Path at 2 o'clock on Sunday.

The Trailblazers fell to 1-1 with the setback.
