Candelieri Reaches 25-Point Milestone In Victory Over Becker

Holden, MA --- Senior Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) collected her 25th career point – winning at second singles and teaming with freshman Natalie Paul (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) for the point at top-flight doubles – to help Worcester State defeat Becker 9-0 this afternoon at Wachusett High School.

The Lancers (2-0) swept all three doubles matches by scores of 8-0 as sophomore Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA) and junior Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) dispatched their opponents as the second seed before first-year teammates Alexis Silk (Greenfield, MA) and Rachel Green (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) captured the victory at third doubles.

Jankins, Paul, Shepard, junior Cassandra Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) and Silk were all winners in their singles matchups while each won their respective matchups in consecutive sets.

The closest matchup that Becker had in the match was during solo play at second singles. After Candelieri handed Hawk freshman Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, MA) a 7-5 setback in the first set, the senior calmly won the final frame in a 6-1 triumph to help her become the 20th women's tennis player to join the 25 point club.

Candelieri has 15 wins at doubles and 11 victories at singles action over the course of her Worcester State career.

The Blue and Gold play again tomorrow as a resumption of a suspended matchup against Wentworth at Wachusett High School in a 4 o'clock meeting with the Leopards. Becker heads to Bay Path next Tuesday in NECC action at 3:30.
