Goncalves, Shepard Lead Five Earning Nod To MASCAC Fall All-Academic Team

Westfield, MA --- Junior teammates Cassandra Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) and Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) highlight five tabbed to the MASCAC Fall All-Academic Team as announced by conference publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Others who were chosen with prestigious laurels include senior Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA), sophomore Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA) and freshman Rachel Green (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy).

Goncalves and Shepard have been honored with MASCAC Fall All-Academic team honors three times in their careers while Jankins and Candelieri each have earned certificates once.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester based grade point average during their semester of competition.

Among other MASCAC institutions sponsoring women's tennis, WSU had the third-most and posted a 3.16 GPA during the Fall season of play. Candelieri, Goncalves, Jankins and Shepard were also chosen to the Little East Conference All-Academic team for maintaining at least a cumulative 3.30 GPA.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Albana Xhemollari, the Lancers went 7-6 (3-5 LEC) and qualified for their third consecutive LEC tournament.

Worcester State had 99 overall selections on the league fall academic honor roll for the third highest total in the conference. The total number of WSU student-athletes also marked the highest since the league began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
