Women's Volleyball Falls Twice At Clark Tri-match

 

Worcester, MA --- Senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) averaged 35.5 assists and 9.5 digs to go with two aces, two kills and a pair of solo blocks over two matches as she helped pace Worcester State in a pair of setbacks at the Clark tri-match on Saturday afternoon.

In a three game affair at Clark's Kneller Athletic Center, the Lancers (17-4) were defeated in the middle match by Salve Regina, 3-1, before being dispatched by the host Cougars, 3-2, in the final match of the afternoon.

The Blue and Gold have a trio of matches in the next week starting off with Anna Maria on Thursday at 7 PM. WSU has a key MASCAC meeting at 11 AM against Framingham State at WPI on Saturday and will take on the Engineers to close out the weekend at 3 o'clock.

 

Salve Regina 3, Worcester State 1

Junior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) and classmate Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) combined for 12 kills while Cabral put up a team-high 17 digs as Worcester State felt to Salve Regina, 3-1, in the second game of the Clark tri-match.

The Lancers were defeated in four sets by the Seahawks (13-7) by set scores of 25-20, 25-16, 19-25 and 25-18.

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) narrowly missed out on a double-double with 15 kills and nine digs as sophomore Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, VA) was solid with seven kills and 15 digs.

Senior Amanda Lewis distinguished herself with 34 assists, seven digs, two aces and a pair of solo blocks. Junior Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) paced a strong defensive effort with 16 digs for the Blue and Gold.

 
 

Clark 3, Worcester State 2

Senior Alyssa Jasper recorded a game-best 21 kills with 15 digs as she propelled Worcester State in a marathon 3-2 loss against Clark.

In the final contest of the evening, the crowd did not leave disappointed as the Cougars won the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-18, before the Lancers came back to even the series with a pair of 25-16 and 25-23 triumphs. But Clark (7-12) prevailed in the winner-take-all fifth, 16-14.

Senior Amanda Lewis dished out a contest-high 37 assists while also adding eight digs and two kills for WSU. Junior Jennifer Cabral continued her standout contributions on both sides of the court with seven kills and 18 digs as classmate Kaylee Leduc put up 14 digs.

Junior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) smashed eight kills to go with two solo blocks and a block assist.

The Lancers compiled eight team blocks for their third-highest sum on the campaign as a club.
