How it Happened:
The Lancers came out ready for action in the first game of the day, battling the Lyons to keep play even in the first set. Mount Holyoke was able to breakaway with a 6 point lead led by Elle Rimando's serves, while Worcester State looked to recalibrate a plan of attack in a mid set time out. Sustained effort from both teams kept the points back and forth for the remainder of the set. First year, Kaitlyn Anthony (Gastonia, NC) was one of the leaders of her team with 10 digs to keep them in the game. A valiant effort by the Lancers would make it a back and forth set but they ultimately fell 24-26 in the first set.
The second set of play started with again evenly matched play but Worcester State gained a small lead of 3 with the help of graduate Student, Maeve Codagon (Wilmington, MA) and defensive effort by first year, Katherine Crateau (North Andover, MA). Unfortunately the Lyons stole the lead with a serving rally by Mount Holyoke to upset the Lancers with a final score of 16-25.
In the last set against the Lyons, Worcester State led by junior Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, NY) offensive attacks kept them evenly matched with their opponent. The Lancers looked to keep the game even but fell behind Mount Holyoke after an offensive rally. Worcester State fell again 16-25 to the Lyons.
In their opening set against Suffolk, Worcester looked to get an early lead but was thwarted by an offensive serving rally by Mia Blattmachr giving the Rams a five point lead. The Lancers had a brief run led by first year Alexia Mitchell (Pawling, NY) with her offensive attack and senior Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT) defensive plays but their opponent finished with a win 19-24.
In the second set, the Lancers gained an early 4 point lead led by Crateau's offensive serves, but the Ram's McKenna Keowen responded with a similar offensive effort to pull her team back to even. Colonis had a notable 11 kills in this set but the blue and gold fell 15-25.
The last set of the night started with multiple receiving and serving errors to keep each team going neck for neck for a lead. While the Lancers attempted to regain momentum, the Rams gained multiple offensive serves unanswered, giving them an edge for the final match. The Lancers gave sweat and effort on the court but fell 19-25.
